March is Women's History Month, honoring the vital role of women in American history. This year’s theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” a tribute to the caregivers and frontline workers during the pandemic and in recognition of the many ways women have provided healing and hope throughout history.
This month we wanted to spotlight some of the partners we work with, incredible women who are business owners, creating an impact in their communities and or paving the way for future generations of female leaders. They share how they use the Flowcode platform to grow their business, what Women's History Month means to them, the best advice they've ever received and more.
I’m a painter, and I go to weddings and events and paint on site. I started doing this about 4 years ago when a friend of mine asked me to paint at her daughter’s wedding. I went to art school at Pratt in Brooklyn, NY and studied at the Art Students League, and then I did a masters program in painting, so this has been a passion of mine for a very long time.
What separates me from other live painters is my process, and my focus on movement and emotion. I begin the painting as soon as I see the right moment or composition as opposed to three or so hours before the event even begins. This creates more intimate and emotional compositions. Unlike some live painters, my paintings are completed in the studio as opposed to handed to the client at the end of the evening. It actually takes so much work in the studio to create fluid impressionistic paintings. Every painting is completely unique and there is no formula at all to what I do.
I use Flowcode QR codes for a variety of different use cases targeting different audiences. On the consumer side, I put a Flowcode on my easel as I am painting so that guests can scan to easily see my completed paintings. When I am painting live at weddings, it can be really hard for people to imagine what the final product is going to look like. Flowcode creates an easy access point for people to visualize what it will look like when it’s complete.
Once the painting is shipped to the client, they get notecards with their painting on it. Many couples use them as thank you cards. I put a Flowcode on the front of the box and send the note cards out to event planners as well. I love sending them a little gift that is also an easy connection point for them to scan and see my other work, and get in contact with me on behalf of their couples.
If you are doing something that you are really passionate about and that you really love doing, it is really easy to sell it. Make sure you are in love with what you are doing. In my case, I really love what I do, it’s been a passion of mine for a really long time. I would probably do it for free if I didn’t need to make money, that’s how much I enjoy this work!!
Women’s History Month is very special to me because I have always been surrounded by really strong women. My mother supported my siblings and me on her own while working as a freelance writer, and I’m doing the same thing for my two children as a painter. I’m named after my grandmother, Hope. She lived in Paris during the 20’s where she studied sculpture. She was such an individual and I recognize a lot of my artistic inclinations from her.
A lot of strong women don’t feel like they are strong. When you are around them, they are not trying to teach you anything, they are just being strong. If you can ever find yourself in a position to surround yourself with strong, powerful women, allow them to teach you by letting them be themselves.
