How You Can Help #Clearthelist for Teachers Around the World

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”

This was originally said by Mark van Doren, a Pulitzer prize winner for poetry, and we couldn’t agree more. Proper education is a right, and it’s made possible by teachers who are the backbone of our country.

While teachers do so much to support children, many educators struggle to get all of the tools needed to fill their classroom with adequate resources for their students. That’s where #clearthelist comes in. An initiative built for teachers.

What is Clear the List?

#Clearthelist is a nationwide initiative to help teachers purchase everything on their wishlists for the upcoming school year. It started as a viral hashtag in 2019 when teachers tried to raise awareness about their lack of funding. Every year, thousands of educators around the country use #clearthelist to promote their digital wishlists to potential donors. Now, in its fourth year of use, the hashtag has transformed into a massive back-to-school philanthropic movement.

I'm a teacher, where can I post my wishlist?

If you're ready to publish your wishlist to the web, look no further! Use this link here to submit your wishlist, and we will do the rest.

How else can we support teachers?

We understand that not everyone has the ability to donate money. If you can’t offer teachers direct donations or items from their wishlists, we recommend that you try to incorporate these practices into any interactions with teachers.

1. Practice patience

Practice patience and good listening when meeting with your children’s teachers. Teachers provide a unique perspective for you as a parent. Treat them as any professional; listen to their take and give it  honest consideration. This simple act of respect can add a lot of peace to a teacher’s day, and it can bring you valuable insight into your child’s needs!

2. Volunteer your time

Volunteer in the classroom at open houses, science fairs, talent shows, and more. Teachers could always use an extra set of adult hands, especially on high-pressure days.

3. Hear out teachers

Be slow to choose sides in a discussion between your child and their teacher. Make sure that both parties are listened to, and aim to make a rational response based on what is best for your child, the classroom as a whole, and your family. It takes a village to raise the next generation, so remember that we’re all in this together!

4. Stay involved

Attend school board meetings to stay involved and informed about your community. The decisions made in these meetings make a difference in the day-to-day lives of your children and their teachers, so you should try to be a part of this when possible.

5. Be grateful

Take a moment to thank your teachers after parent-teacher conferences, around the holidays, or as semesters wrap up. If you can’t afford to donate, you can still offer them your gratitude in the form of a handwritten note or through a friendly conversation.

Will You Help Us #Clearthelist?
