Local Events

May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. We kick off a week of action with a viewing & discussion at the River Church community and encourage participation in local events in our city. Discussion centers on ecclesial reparation & the role of the church as reconcilers in this space. 

MMIW Week of Action Kick-Off

Teach In: An International Perspective on MMIP

This event will feature a panel discussion and healing arts workshop. All provided free of charge to students and community.

An International Perspective on MMIP 5-8pm

The Red Dress Day Exhibit is part of a national day, May 5, to raise awareness of and to honor Missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, MMIWG. Originally held in 2010 in Canada, it now continues annually and has expanded cross the United States and Mexico.

Red Dress Day calls attention to the disproportionate rates of violence and murder of indigenous women and girls.

Compassion & Justice Ministries will host a viewing of Murder in Big Horn, and following, facilitate a discussion on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIWGS2, MMIP) Awareness crisis. Join the River Church Community in learning and engaging

Saturday May 6th, MMIW Movie Screening & Discussion, 5:30 PM

Shadow Bluff reservation site on Velodrome side of park

Kathy Napoli of the Susanville Indian Rancheria will be our speaker. She will be sharing information about the crisis and how it has been impacting the community in Northern California. There will also be a live art exhibit hosted by Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley. 

Fundraising raffles, snacks, and an opportunity to build community and learn together!
