Memories Of Flowers- The Afro-Pick Series

Yvonne Shortt and DIVAS for Social Justice partnered in the creation of Shortt’s Afro-Pick Series sculpture at the Garden Of Resilience. Ms. Shortt was inspired by the stories documented by youth in DIVAS’s after-school program in Laurelton, Queens. Students shared candid memories and fictional stories related to their connections with flowers. Digital Media Specialist ,Tiffany Thomas facilitated the writing and recordings of the youth. This project is supported by The Cultural Immigrant Initiative & The Department Of Cultural Affairs .
